What is a Brake Master Cylinder and How It Works?

Your motorcycle handlebar master cylinder is a pretty simple device that has to perform perfectly in a variety of conditions. This simple lever actuated device is the difference between being able to stop or careening into the vehicle in front of you. A front brake master cylinder is a device that operates on hydraulic pressure. When you pull the lever, a piston pushes brake fluid which actuates a piston that pushes against a brake pad. This causes the brake pads to close around the brake rotor causing friction. This friction is what stops your momentum. If your motorcycle front master cylinder does not function properly, the bakes will simply not engage. Keeping your brake fluid clean and your front brake master cylinder in good working order is imperative for your safety and those your ride with.
